Fitness and fun is what AKC Fit Tricks is all about! This course follows the AKC Fit Dog course curriculum and is taught by a certified AKC Fit Dog Instructor. It teaches the foundation skills for a home fitness routine through a variety of fun tricks!
Benefits include mental and physical stimulation, reduced risk of injury, increased strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. The positive tricks format also helps reduce boredom, increase confidence, and help eliminate some problem behaviors.
During this 6 week course you will learn about fitness basics, simple warm-up and cool down routines, and how to teach fitness promoting tricks with proper form such as: tuck sit, weight shifts, paw targeting, nose stretches, kickback stand, spin, foldback down, cavaletti poles, and pivoting rear legs.
Pre-requisites: Beginning obedience or
equivalent skills. Dogs should understand the training game, and be able to focus on tasks during class. Owners should understand lure-reward based training methods, though capturing and shaping as training concepts may also be used in class.
This class is for healthy dogs with no significant prior injuries or ongoing conditions. When in doubt, ask your veterinarian if a basic fitness program is safe for your dog. Exercises will be adjusted for different fitness levels and ages.
