Does your dog need to dig in, pull hard, and burn some energy? Carpet mills are a special type of dog-powered treadmill that are great for energetic dogs, especially those who like pulling sports and strength-based exercise! The carpet mill is motor-free, so it only goes as fast as your dog wants to go, and your dog needs to pull against a harness to make the belt spin.

Physical requirements:
Because this is intense exercise, the carpet mill should only be used by dogs who are done growing and whose growth plates are closed. Ask your vet if you're not sure whether your dog can safely do this exercise! If your dog shows any signs of lameness, obesity, pain, or discomfort, we will ask you to get a note from your veterinarian clearing your dog for this form of exercise.

Our carpet mill can accommodate dogs from approximately 25-70lbs, depending on your dog's height and length. Especially driven and strong dogs under 25lbs can also use it, and some more compact dogs over 70lbs. If your dog is too small or large to use the carpet mill upon arrival, we'll spend your lesson time working on other strength-based exercise instead, so that your dog still gets a good workout.

What to bring:
Please bring your hungry, energetic dog, wearing a well-fitted harness with an attachment point over your dog's shoulders (not in front of their chest) for your appointment. If you need a harness, we have options available for sale at our facility!

Bring a variety of your dog's favorite rewards, too: both food and toys are appropriate. While many dogs eventually use the carpet mill just for the endorphins they gain from exercise, we'll be rewarding generously in the early stages to help your dog feel safe and happy. If your dog has a favorite tug toy, that will be especially helpful in the early training process.

Next steps:
Note: carpet mill training sessions with a professional trainer are required until your dog is able to use the mill safely and comfortably, and you are able to demonstrate that you can handle your dog safely on the mill. At that time, you'll be invited to book private carpet mill rentals at a discounted rate and can use the mill without direct supervision from a trainer on a schedule of your choosing!
